Welcome to the QC Quail

Hello World! Welcome to the first blog post in the QC Quail. All contributors to this blog are part of Team Quail in Augustana's 2020 Senior Inquiry class. In our posts, we will be giving weekly updates on our project progress.

This week, we truly began our project journey. We did some initial brainstorming before deciding on our team project idea, the Augustana Market. We are hoping that this project will allow fellow Augustana students to buy and sell textbooks (and possibly other stuff in the future!). Right now, students' only options to buy and sell textbooks is through the college bookstore and online sellers. However, these options either leave a lot of money on the table for the student seller or are very impersonal and inconvenient. Successfully creating this app would be a big help for any student who sets foot on the campus.

Currently, we are planning to create a web-based app. We briefly considered making an android app, but a web-app allows universal access to all students, not just android users. On top of this, users will only need to buy and sell textbooks once or twice a semester, so having an app dedicated to it taking up space on their phone is unnecessary. Early efforts were mostly focused on brainstorming design requirements and outlining user needs. Currently, the biggest features that need to be implemented are a streamlined buying and selling service, complete with search functionality, as well as a profile creation tool that ensures only Augustana students can access the site. We also created a preliminary list of technologies we might be able to learn and utilize. See below.

Technology List
1. Javascript
2. HTML
3. CSS
4. PHP
5. React/Angular
6. Firebase
7. JSON
8. mySQL/SQL
9. Google Cloud Vision API

We are excited to share our journey with you all, and we will keep you updated as we go along!
