Week 6 Update (March 9-15)

Welcome back to another QC Quail post! This week (March 9-15), we want to bring you a quick update about what we’ve been working on. This week, we accomplished a number of things, which we will go into throughout this post.

  1.  Obtained a better understanding of React.js
  2. Learned about implementing firebase in React
  3. Authenticate into firebase using a Google login
  4. Decided to use Bootstrap to style UI elements
  5. Didn’t get COVID-19… yet

To get a better understanding of React, the team researched throughout the week, primarily utilizing youtube and frantic, late-night google searches. As we learned more about React, we have only discovered how much more we need to learn about it. However, we have made some progress. We all successfully implemented a basic firebase with a simple website. This knowledge will be extremely useful as our project requires the use of firebase heavily. Furthermore, significant progress was made in the realm of authenticating the user in firebase. Proper authentication will ensure that only Augustana students and faculty will be able to post goods on the marketplace. Finally, we decided to join Team Bootstrap. We took some time discussing the relative merits of both Bootstrap and Material UI. However, Bootstrap is more widely used in industry and has a sleek, modern feel to it that will enhance the appearance of the marketplace. That’s all we have for you guys this week! Stay safe and wash your hands!
